Anti slip matting has been described as a "highly effective" method of combating accidents in the workplace.
A spokesperson from the Health and Safety Executive claimed that when used in combination with cleaning, it can help protect individuals from falls in the workplace.
The representative said: "Absorbent matting at entrances can be useful as it removes moisture on people's shoes which could otherwise be tracked in."
It was suggested that laying floor mats in areas where surfaces often get wet is a good idea.
This was noted as one way to prevent people from sustaining injuries through slips or falls, which could lead to compensation claims.
Companies were encouraged to take steps to avoid accidents such as laying mats, improving entrance designs and enforcing strict cleaning methods.
The comments follow recent advice from senior policy and technical advisor at the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health Jill Joyce, who claimed that slips, trips and falls are avoidable incidents.
