Restaurant owners may want to ensure they have hand dryers fitted in their establishments after one eatery was prosecuted for breaching health standards.
Marco's Pizzeria in Eaglescliffe was found to be lacking in hygiene supplies including hand washing and drying equipment along with a number of other issues, the Evening Gazette reports.
Mussarat Hussain, who owns the takeaway, was fined £1,000 for four offences and ordered to pay £969.60 in costs following the claims made by Stockton Council.
The findings came after a routine inspection by the local authority last October established hygiene standards at the premises were below par.
However, a follow-up visit the next day confirmed appropriate action had been taken and the pizza parlour was able to remain in business.
Elsewhere, the Evening Chronicle recently reported how chefs at a China City takeaway in Tyneside were secretly filmed flouting hygiene laws by smoking cigarettes while preparing food.
