New hand dryers installed at East Midland train stations

Date: 23/5/2011

One rail company has upgraded hand dryers at numerous stations along its lines in a bid to reduce its carbon footprint.

East Midlands Trains has refurbished waiting rooms and bathrooms by installing energy-saving measures.

Motion-sensitive lighting has been fitted along with energy efficient hand dryers and automatic taps.

The measures have been introduced in order to reduce water wastage and help improve fuel economy by 4.4 per cent.

This week sees the trainline's parent company the Stagecoach Group launch its third annual Green Week initiative, which aims to promote the environmental benefits of train travel.

Managing director of East Midlands Trains Tim Shoveller said: "We're proud of the steps we have taken so far to become a more sustainable business and travelling by train is already one of the greenest ways to travel."

Passengers can travel direct to London, Liverpool John Lennon Airport, East Midlands Airport and St Pancras International Station on one of the company's many lines.
