Washroom services receive facelift

Date: 27/4/2011

Repairs to a washroom air purification system are among renovation work that has been carried out at a public toilet in Bedford.

The Allhallows facilities have undergone a complete overhaul in order to modernise the washroom services, the Bedfordshire On Sunday reports.

Paul Pace, head of environment at Bedford Borough Council, said: "It's important that when individuals visit a public toilet they feel they are in a safe and clean environment."

A new floor has been laid in both the male and female bathrooms, while stainless steel hand wash basins have been replaced with anti-vandal bowls in a solid vanity top.

The toilets have been thoroughly cleaned and anti-graffiti paint has been applied to the walls, ceiling, doors and frames.

Mr Pace commented that the new washroom services will hopefully make people proud of Bedford and ensure residents and visitors "enjoy a positive and welcoming experience".

The news comes after the Queensferry Gazette recently reported how 15 public toilets in the area may be under threat of closure following a proposal from the local council.
